1/144 Bf-109/Ju-88 Mistel Combo

This was supposed to be a weekend project, designed in order to clear the 1/144 Academy Ju88 and the Eduard Bf 109F off my shelves where they've been sitting for some time.  It ended up taking almost 2 weeks of on-and-off work, but I enjoyed it simply because I didn't get too hung up about accuracy, and there was no cockpit detailing to do :)  I did have several plans of the various Mistel combinations which I used to determine the shape of the warhead and the position of the supporting struts.  The warhead I built from several round-section pieces from my spares box (a cowling from some long-since forgotten kit, half a wheel and a piece of paintbrush handle!).  Other than that I didn't do much to the '88 except remove the raised panel lines, replace the u/c doors and wheels and add the navigation light to the wing leading edge.

I painted the splinter pattern with acrylics and made new decals with my ALPs printer, including the swastikas.  I handpainted the squiggle camouflage with a fine brush and much cursing.  Eduard's 109 was built straight from the box except that I did hollow out the solid cockpit and added a seat, more to assuage my guilt than anything else, you certainly can't see anything once the canopy's on.  I used the kit's decals, they're probably not correct for a Mistel aircraft but I don't much care, they look OK and I suspect it would be hard to prove otherwise :) The struts I made up from lengths of Contrail strut material and lengths of sprue.
