Malaysia National Day

Ops Confrontation was an undeclared war between British-backed Malaysia and Indonesia during 1962–1966. Military forces for the  Commonwealth countries defended the newly formed Malaysia during confrontation. Here is a couple of models from this period.

1/72 Airfix Hawker Hunter FGA9

No.20 Sqn, RAF

No, 20 Sqn Hunters were based in RAF Tengah, it involved mainly in the ground attack role with rockets and cannons.  This is the Airfix 1/72 kit that came with the required 20 Sqn marking, This kit was basically build OOB with the raised line re-scribe.

Construction was relatively straight-forward, Painting was done with Gunze Ocean Grey, Dark Green and Silver.

1/72 EE Canberra B(I)12

No.14 Sqn,  RNZAF

The RNZAF’s Canberras were deployed to RAF Tengah and RAAF Butterworth to assist in Operation Confrontation as  part of the FEAF.

This is the Russian copy of the old 1/72 Frog Canberra. The plastic is quite hard and brittle but the fitting is not too bad, This is a tail seater or a substantial amount of weight was added to the nose.

Again painting was done with Gunze ocean grey, dark green over off white. The decal was taken from various source, and the white NZ serials were masked and spray.

Many thanks to Shah, Mr B, Ratch, Kenny for their assistance in these projects.

Happy Merdeka..2009
