(Captured
Spitfire Mk.Vb with DB605 Engine)
This is 1/48
Tamiya Spitfire MkVb mated with Fusion DB605 conversion set. This aircraft
(Spitfire MkVb serial EN850 / NX-X) flown by P/O Bernard Scheidhauer
was captured in Jersey island (between England and France) after a crash
landing on November 18, 1942. Scheidhauer's aircraft (EN830) was shipped to
Daimler Benz factory in Echterdingen- Germany. Several flights were made
by Daimler-Benz pilots before conversion was attempted. A standard DB 605A-1
engine was mounted to the firewall.
Spinner, propeller and carburetor scoop are added from a Bf-109G. With german
camouflage and yellow-painted nose modified EN830 served officially as a test
bed. Its career ended on August 14, 1944 when a formation of US bombers
attacked Echterdingen.

I used
“Captured Spitfire Mk.Vb with DB605 Engine set” from “Fusion
Models” for the conversion.
Eduard
PE instrument panel, Ultracast resin seat and Quickboost gunsight added in the
cockpit
Armament
on the wings were deleted.
The
painting was done with Gunze Sangyo acrylics. Camouflage scheme is RLM 74/75
over RLM 04 .
Unfortunately
decals are not included in the set. National insignias and swastikas are from my
spares box.
Thanks
to Mr Tarık Soylu for home made decals of black code letters (CJ ZY) on the
fuselage and the wings.
Finally
I replaced the cockpit door from Ultracast.
