1/72 Italeri Nordair DC-3

by Ed Ritchuk

--------------------

I built this model for my wife who was an employee of Nordair from 1976 until it's takeover by CP Air in the mid 1980's. It is OOB except for scratch built red beacon on tail and Whiskey Jack decals. Although the decal sheet supplies the blue tail and fuselage strips I found these too dark, so I airbrushed a mix of Tamiya acrylics.

The red markings (possibly Day-Glo) were a safety measure used to aid S/R operations in the event of an accident, as these aircraft flew into remote Eastern Canadian arctic airfields where the landscape was snow covered for most of the year. Rumours have it that this aircraft was written off due to an accident with a ground service vehicle.
